SOMON AIR SUPPORTS INITIATIVE 25 TO 25

Somon Air joined the 25 by 2025 campaign organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This campaign kicked off in September 2019. The goal is to promote gender diversity in the aviation industry.

At the end of the campaign it is expected that there will be an increase in the number of women in leadership positions and under-represented areas. It is expected to be an increase of 25% compared with the current numbers or to a minimum 25% of all employees by 2025. The first steps in implementing this program will be shared during the roundtable discussion in Paris organized by IATA in May 2020. According to official statistics, currently only 8% of pilots in the world are women, and the number of women - general directors in the aviation industry is merely 3%.

Thomas W. Hallam II, Somon Air CEO, emphasized the importance of participating in the action 25 by 2025: “I consider it a great idea to increase the role and importance of women in society. This initiative echoes the views of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, who always pays special attention to the participation of women in the public and political life of the republic. Determining the place and role of women in society is one of the pressing issues of our time. A popular metaphor is the “glass ceiling”: an invisible but real barrier that a woman leader encounters when trying to reach the pinnacles of success. And the main obstacle is in relation to others. Promotion of women should be considered at present as an instrument of stable and sustainable development of society.”

To date, Somon Air has successfully operated flights from Tajikistan to Germany, the UAE, Turkey, China, India, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The airline fleet consists of Boeing 737-300, -800 and -900 aircraft and Airbus H125 helicopter.
